Ulrikke Brandstorp (born July 13, 1995 ) is a Norwegian singer and musical artist . She would have represented her country at the Eurovision Song Contest 2020 in Rotterdam . This was canceled on March 18, 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic .

Life

Brandstorp comes from Skjeberg in Sarpsborg Municipality . In her youth she appeared in various theater productions. From 2011 to 2013 she was part of the Norway tour of The Show Must Go On II and The Thrill Of Michael Jackson . In 2013, she was a participant in the casting show Idol . She took part in the casting show The Voice in 2015, where she reached the semifinals.

2017-2019

In March 2017 Brandstorp took part in the Melodi Grand Prix 2017 , the Norwegian preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest . There she performed with the song Places and was able to achieve fourth place. In 2018 she took part in the Norwegian singing program Stjernekamp in the autumn . There she managed to qualify for the next round over ten weeks. In the final she lost to her last remaining competitor, the Sami singer Ella Marie Hætta Isaksen . From autumn 2019 she played in the musical Sound of Music at Folketeatret in Oslo . She took on the role of Liesl there.

Eurovision Song Contest 2020

Brandstorp competed again at the 2020 Melodi Grand Prix , this time with the song Attention . This was written by her together with Kjetil Mørland and Christian Ingebrigtsen. Like four other entries, she qualified for the final on February 15 and was considered the favorite to win the competition. She was able to win the final on February 15, 2020, which was characterized by problems with the vote, and Brandstorp would have represented Norway at the Eurovision Song Contest 2020. On March 1st, her song appeared in the Romanian preliminary round Selecția Națională .

On March 18, 2020, the Eurovision Song Contest 2020 was finally canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. On March 26, 2020, the Norwegian broadcaster Norsk rikskringkasting announced that it would broadcast a new edition of the Melodi Grand Prix in 2021 . The broadcaster said that Brandstorp had refused to compete there as a contribution that automatically qualified for the finals.
