Irshad Khan

Irshad Khan is an Indian sitar and surbahar player and music teacher.

Ustād Irshad Khan comes from the Imdadkhani Gharana , a family and tradition of musicians dating back four hundred years and who contributed significantly to the development of the sitar to its current form; Irshan's great-great-grandfather is considered to be the inventor of the Subahar. His father Ustad Imrat Khan and his uncle Ustad Vilayet Khan are recognized musicians, as are his brothers Nishad , Wahajat and Shafaatullah .

At thirteen, Irshad Kahn made his international debut in London's Queen Elizabeth Hall . At the age of eighteen he was a soloist in the Indian All Night Concert at the Proms . Since then he has performed at concerts, festivals and conferences in more than forty countries in North America, Europe and Asia. He lives in Mississauga, Canada and is the founder and president of the Universal Academy for Musicians, which is based there and in Mumbai . He also gives workshops, lectures and master classes at various music education institutions.
