Agnete Kristin Johnsen Saba (born Johnsen , born July 4, 1994 in Nesseby ) is a Norwegian singer . She represented Norway at the Eurovision Song Contest 2016 in Stockholm , but did not make it to the final.

life and career

Agnete belongs to the Sami people and is a daughter of the Sami children's book author Signe Iversen, as well as the great-grandniece of the first Sami in Stortinget , Isak Saba , whose name she took on in 2020.

She became known as a member of the teen punk band The BlackSheeps, which was founded in 2008 at their school in Nesseby. In the same year the formation won the Melodi Grand Prix Junior, the Norwegian preselection for MGP Nordic with the song Oro jaska, beana (Be quiet, dog). The song also reached number 1 on the Norwegian charts and won the Spellemann Prize .

In 2011 The BlackSheeps took part in the Melodi Grand Prix and came second with Dance Tonight behind Stella Mwangi . Shortly afterwards the group broke up. Three years later, Agnete Johnsen was on the Norwegian version of Dancing with the Stars , Skal vi danse? , and also won this competition. On January 19, 2016, she was selected as one of ten participants in the Melodi Grand Prix 2016, which she won on February 27, 2016 by a large margin and 166,728 votes. With her song Icebreaker , she represented Norway in the second semifinals of the ESC on May 12, 2016. However, she could not qualify for the final of the competition.
