The MGP Nordic (Melodi Grand Prix Nordic) is an international song competition for children aged 8 to 15 years. Participating countries are the Scandinavian countries Denmark , Norway and Sweden as well as Finland . The responsible broadcasters are DR , NRK , SVT and Yle Fem .

history

The MGP Nordic found its origin in Denmark and was still called Unges melodi grand prix at that time . After two years Norway and Sweden joined and the contest got its current name. Each of the participants was allowed to send three candidates into the race, so the number of participants was nine. In 2007 Finland also joined the contest. Since then, only two candidates have been admitted per country, which corresponds to a total of eight candidates.

In 2003, the MGP Nordic became the Junior Eurovision Song Contest . From then on, all countries from Europe were allowed to participate. The MGP Nordic was thus on hold until 2005. In 2006 the Nordic countries decided to withdraw from the competition and bring the MGP back to life.
