Wig Wam (2007)

Wig Wam was a Norwegian glam rock band, the style of which is based on typical American rock bands of the 1980s .

Grand Prix

At the Eurovision Song Contest 2005 Wig Wam competed for Norway after winning the national preliminary round of the Melodi Grand Prix . With the song In My Dreams , composed by guitarist “Teeny”, the band prevailed against seven competitors and thus got the ticket to Kiev . Wig Wam thus brought completely new sounds to the Grand Prix. The band's motto: “ Rock'n'Roll is the new hit .” In the end, she finished ninth with 125 points.

Wig Wam had already taken part in the Norwegian Grand Prix final in 2004, but only achieved third place in the end. With the title Crazy Things she had to admit defeat to the singer Knut Anders Sørum ( High ), who ended up in last place in the 2004 Eurovision Song Contest . Front man "Glam" also tried his luck alone in the Norwegian preliminary round in 1998 and came in third under his artist name G'sten with the song Always Will .

Band history

Wig Wam comes from Norway in the province of Østfold and was founded in 2001 . But the band members were already musically active beforehand, be it with bands like Dream Police, Artch, Sha-Boom, Ole Evenrude and Alien or on solo paths. Wig Wam laboriously worked its way to the top of the national charts, starting with numerous live performances across the country and eventually becoming Norway's most popular live band.

In 2004 the band released their debut album 667… The Neighbor of the Beast , which was also released in Sweden . After their qualification for the Grand Prix in Ukraine there was a re-release called Hard to Be a Rock'n'Roller ... in Kiev , which was also sold in other European countries. Her musical role models include the band members Kiss and Dream Police as well as Jimmy Page , Led Zeppelin and Marilyn Manson .

Despite their actual Norwegian origins, the group itself fictitiously described their band history as follows: On April 1, 1970, the band was founded in the Bronx , "the Polish quarter of New York ". In the following years Wig Wam released some records like The Black and Red Album (1974) and The Yellow Purple Brown and Black Album (1975), which sold several thousand times. Legend has it that Wig Wam emigrated to Norway in 1976 , where they have been giving concerts and selling their records ever since.

After performing at the Song Contest, Wig Wam achieved success in several European countries. The band placed in the sales charts in Sweden, Romania , Denmark and Finland with their single In My Dreams . On September 19, 2005, the single was released in Germany , Austria and Switzerland .

In March 2014 the band announced their breakup on their homepage. Front man Åge Sten Nilsen and keyboardist Lasse Finbråthen founded the glam metal band Ammunition around two months later in early June 2014 .

On November 22nd, 2019 the singer Åge Sten Nilsen announced a comeback. The band will be seen on at the Norwegian Tons of Rock Festival 2020.
