KEiiNO is a Norwegian band . She represented Norway at the Eurovision Song Contest 2019 .

history

The band itself was founded in Oslo in August 2018 for the Melodi Grand Prix 2019 . Its members are the joik singer and rapper Fred Buljo, the singer Alexandra Rotan and the singer Tom Hugo Hermansen. None of the band members knew each other before. The initiator of the band was Hermansen, who wanted to write a song about equality with his husband Alex Olsson and was looking for a Sami singer. Rotan was later contacted as they still needed a female singer for the song.

The name of the band was derived from Fred Buljo's hometown of Kautokeino . The part of the name "-keino" stands for the North Sami word for "way". According to Buljo, the way that brought the members together should be expressed in the band name.

The group won the Norwegian ESC preliminary decision MGP 2019 on March 2, 2019 with their song Spirit in the Sky , representing Norway at the Eurovision Song Contest 2019 in Tel Aviv , Israel . Her song was inspired by the historical struggle for equality regardless of ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation and identity. It was written by the group members themselves, Henrik Tala from Finland and Alex Olsson. It combines pop , yoik , electronic pop music and EDM .

You achieved sixth place in the final of the Eurovision Song Contest as the winner of the televote.

At the Sami Music Awards in February 2020, they won prizes in two categories. The group will release their debut album on March 27, 2020.
