Fred-René Øvergård Buljo (born February 6, 1988 ) is a Norwegian - Sami rapper , joiker and politician . He is a member of the Sami rap group Duolva Duottar and the band KEiiNO , with which he took part in the Eurovision Song Contest 2019 .

Musician

With the Sami rap group Duolva Duottar, which was founded in 2007, Buljo took part in the Norwegian talent show Norske Talenter in 2008 . The group managed to move into the final. They then gave concerts in Norway and Russia , including at the Sami music festival Riddu Riđđu .

In 2018 Fred Buljo became a member of the newly founded band KEiiNO , which took part in the Norwegian ESC preliminary round, the Melodi Grand Prix 2019 , in January 2019 . There they won with the song Spirit in the Sky and were thus allowed to represent Norway at the Eurovision Song Contest in Tel Aviv . Buljo, who joiks in this song, had never sung in public like this before. At the Eurovision Song Contest they reached sixth place in the final, but they were able to get the most votes from the audience.

The band KEiiNO is named after Buljo's hometown Kautokeino . Before joining KEiiNO, he worked in a Sami kindergarten in Oslo .

Politician

Buljo stood for the Sami party Árja in the Saturday election 2013, where he was Vararepresentant , i.e. a possible replacement candidate. He ran for it in the constituency Ávjovárri, which includes the municipalities of Kautokeino , Karasjok and Porsanger . In 2016, he followed suit when Inger Eline Eriksen Fjellgren became a member of Samtingsråd and had to suspend her mandate in the Sameting. During his parliamentary period, Buljo was a member of the Education, Care and Training Committee. After the 2017 election, he left parliament. He had now run for the constituency of southern Norway, but was unable to achieve a mandate as the top candidate in this constituency.
