Spirit in the Sky is a song by the Norwegian band KEiiNO and the country's entry to the Eurovision Song Contest 2019 in Tel Aviv , Israel . The song qualified through the second semi-final on May 16, 2019 for the final on May 18, 2019; there he initially reached fifth place with 338 points. The result was later corrected to 331 points and sixth place.

Music and lyrics

It is an up-tempo dance pop song with some folk elements. He speaks lyrically dancing northern lights , but more deeply topics such as equality regardless of ethnicity, gender identity and sexuality. The line of the song "Čajet dan čuovgga" ("Show me the light") is written in the North Sami language . The song also contains a part with joik - a Sami type of song - that has no lyrics. For the first time since 1980 yoik singing could be heard at the Eurovision Song Contest.

On March 2, 2019, it was the winning title of the Melodi Grand Prix 2019 in the Oslo Spektrum . Spirit in the Sky's music video was released on April 4, 2019. Norway was drawn into the second semifinals on May 16, 2019 and came in 15th. In the final on May 18, which took place two days later, Spirit in the Sky was also presented as 15th of 26 contributions and reached fifth place with 338 points. With 291 points, it got the most points of all contributions from the audience; the song received twelve points from the German audience. After checking the jury points of Belarus, the result was changed and Norway fell one place with 331 points.
