Kjetil Mørland (born October 3, 1980 in Grimstad ), better known only by his last name as Mørland , is a Norwegian singer .

Career

From 2008 to 2011 Kjetil Mørland sang with the British pop rock band Absent Elk , which released several singles and an album in 2009. Since 2014 he has tried a solo career.

Together with Debrah Scarlett , he won the Melodi Grand Prix 2015 and was therefore allowed to represent Norway at the Eurovision Song Contest 2015 in Vienna , Austria with the self-written song A Monster Like Me . There the duo reached eighth place. In the run-up to the final, Mørland was awarded the Marcel Bezençon Prize for the best composition.

In May 2016 his first solo album Make a Sail was released .

Mørland wrote the song Who We Are , which was performed by Rebecca Thorsen at the Melodi Grand Prix 2018 , where it took second place and thus did not qualify for participation in the Eurovision Song Contest 2018 . On March 2, 2019 he took part again as a solo artist with En Livredd Mann in the Melodi Grand Prix , where he did not make it into the top four appearances. In addition to the contribution he sang himself, he was also involved in the competition as the author of the song The Bubble , which took second place. Mørland was involved as a songwriter in the song Attention , with which Ulrikke Brandstorp won the Melodi Grand Prix 2020 and thus would have represented Norway at the Eurovision Song Contest 2020 . However, this was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
