Jahn Teigen (born January 27, 1949 in Tønsberg as Jan Teigen ; † February 24, 2020 in Ystad ) was a Norwegian singer and musician . He represented Norway at the Eurovision Song Contest 1978 , 1982 and 1983 and became known throughout Europe through this competition. He was the first artist to receive zero points for his title after the new rules on scoring in 1975.

Private life

Jahn Teigen was married to Anita Skorgan (who in turn also took part in the Eurovision Song Contest for Norway several times ), the couple divorced. Teigen had a daughter with Skorgan.

Before his death he lived in seclusion in Ingelstorp , just outside the Swedish city of Ystad . He died on February 24, 2020 in Ystad Hospital.

Participation in the Melodi Grand Prix

Teigen first took part in 1974 in the Melodi Grand Prix , the Norwegian preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest . He and Anne-Karine Strøm each sang the same title Hvor er du (Where are you), whereby the Strøms version prevailed and represented Norway at the 1974 ESC in Brighton with the English version The First Day of Love .

Between 1974 and 2005, Teigen took part in the Norwegian qualifications a total of fourteen times. With the exception of the English-language contribution My Heart Is My Home (2005) he sang all contributions in Norwegian: 1974 ( Hvor er du ), 1975 ( Kjærlighetens under ), 1976 ( Hastverk and Voodoo ), 1978 ( Mil etter mil ), 1980 ( Ja ), 1982 (with Anita Skorgan Adieu ), 1983 ( Do Re Wed ), 1988 ( Glasnost ), 1989 ( Optimist ), 1990 ( Smil ), 1993 ( Jackpot ), 1994 ( Gi alt vi har ), 1996 (as part of the Duos To Tenorer with Ariel ) and 2005 ( My Heart Is My Home ).

Eurovision Song Contest 1978

At the 1978 Eurovision Song Contest in Paris, Teigen took part for the first time in this international competition entitled Mil etter mil (in German "Mile for Mile"). The title did not receive a point from a single jury and took last place. The fact that a title went empty at the Eurovision Song Contest has happened several times in the past, but Teigen's poor performance in 1978 was a novelty: In 1975 the point system that is still valid today was introduced (in which each country rates ten titles). Mil etter mil became the epitome of failure in the Eurovision Song Contest. In Norway, however, Teigen had great success with this title and reached number one on the hit list.

Eurovision Song Contest 1982 and 1983

At the 1982 Eurovision Song Contest in Harrogate, Teigen again took part for Norway, this time in a duet with his then wife Anita Skorgan and the title Adieu , who took twelfth place. In Munich 1983 Teigen achieved his best result in the Eurovision Song Contest with ninth place for Do-re-mi .
