The 28th Eurovision Song Contest took place on April 23, 1983 in the Rudi-Sedlmayer-Halle in Munich , since Germany had won the 27th Eurovision Song Contest last year and thus won for the first time. Thus, after Frankfurt am Main in 1957 , the Federal Republic hosted the contest for the second time.
The costs for organization and transmission, which were incumbent on the BR , amounted to 1.5 million DM, to which 1.2 million DM were added for the television production. 63,000 light bulbs were used to create the set.
particularities
This year Germany took fifth place with the title Rücksicht , sung by the duo Hoffmann & Hoffmann . The song had Michael Reinecke and Volker Lechtenbrink written. Austria and Westend's Hurricane came in ninth, Io così non ci sto , Mariella Farré's Swiss contribution , came in fifteenth.
The winner was Si la vie est cadeau by Corinne Hermès from Luxembourg with 6 points ahead of the runner-up Ofra Haza , who then started an international career. Two countries this time went home with no points for their contribution, namely Turkey and Spain.
Marlène Charell moderated the competition continuously in three languages (German, English and French), so that the airtime was exceeded. She made numerous mistakes in the moderation of the performers and the awarding of points.
Attendees
After France , Italy and Greece had not participated in the previous year, they were there again this year. For the first time since its first participation, however, Ireland was missing , so that 20 countries took part. The following performers returned to the competition:
country | Interpreter | Previous year of participation |
---|---|---|
France | Guy Bonnet | 1970 |
Norway | Anita Skorgan (backing singer of Jahn Teigen) | 1977 , 1979 , 1982 |

Voting procedure
In each country there was an eleven-member jury, which initially determined the ten best songs internally. Then the individual juries awarded 12, 10, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 points and 1 point to these ten best songs.
