In addition to the eleven countries from 1985, four countries also made their debut in 1987. Denmark, Yugoslavia and Austria finally took part for the first time. Canada's debut in competition was special. Thus, for the first time, an associated EBU member, the television broadcaster CBC , took part in a Eurovision event. It was also the first non-European country to compete. Together with Israel and Morocco, it was only the third country outside of Europe to take part in a Eurovision event.
Another special feature was that for the first time two countries took part in a Eurovision event together. In 1987 the Netherlands and Belgium sent a dance couple together. In the competition itself, however, they competed under the Dutch flag. Nevertheless, it was mentioned in the program booklet that it was a joint contribution from both countries.
final
14 countries competed against each other. In contrast to the first competition in 1985, the titles of the dances and their choreographers were announced in 1987. However, the starting positions from 1987 are unknown. Nevertheless, only the first three places were announced.
