In the Middle of Nowhere is the fourth studio album by the German pop duo Modern Talking . It was released by Hansa Records in November 1986 . It is also subtitled The 4th Album .
History and content
Despite the success of three number one albums now, there was a crisis between Dieter Bohlen and Thomas Anders in the course of 1986 . For example, Bohlen had to make an appearance on a French TV show with the double Uwe Borgwardt, as Anders' appearance - which happened more often - had been forbidden by his girlfriend Nora. The album was again co-produced by Bohlen's friend Luis Rodriguez , who - unlike the previous album - was also named on the cover this time. All pieces on the album were written by Dieter Bohlen, the vocals are by Thomas Anders. Lyrically, Bohlen tried to move a little away from the familiar theme of love and romances with the peace appeal Give Me Peace on Earth and two songs about New York City .
The first single Geronimo's Cadillac was released in advance in October 1986. It was the first single that did not make it to the top of the German single charts. The second single Give Me Peace on Earth reached number 29 in Germany, a flop for Modern Talking standards. Lonely Tears in Chinatown was only released in Spain in 1987 , where it reached number nine in the charts.
Like its predecessor, Ready for Romance , the album enjoyed great popularity in the Soviet Union and preceded the duo's first appearances there in 1987.

Manfred Vormstein was responsible for the design , together with M. Kortemeier and the Ariola studios and with photos by Didi Zill . The cover shows a lightning bolt in front of a prism-like object on a black background.
reception
The album became a number one album in Germany - where it remained chart-listed for twelve weeks, one of which was at the top on December 1, 1986. It came in second in Austria and third in Switzerland . It also reached high chart positions in the Netherlands and Scandinavia .
In Germany, In the Middle of Nowhere achieved gold status . In Spain it was awarded platinum .
