Dieter Zill (born 1938 or November 16, 1942 in Berlin ), known as Didi Zill , is a German musician and photographer who became known as the photographer of the youth magazine Bravo .

biography

Didi Zill first became known as a musician together with his band Didi & his ABC Boys , who recorded German beat music in the style of The Beatles and were particularly successful with the album Beat from Berlin (1965), an album with German-language cover versions of well-known Beatles songs would have. She performed nationally and internationally, including supporting Bill Haley , Little Richard and the Rolling Stones on their two tours in the 1960s. After the dissolution, Dieter Zill became a disc jockey .

In the 1970s he released quite successfully several singles under his name (inter alia, Long Live Rock'n Roll, Stranger, The First Time) and an LP.

In 1969 he went to the youth magazine Bravo and became a photographer and photo editor. He photographed Sonny & Cher , Creedence Clearwater Revival and the stars of the Western series High Chaparral on his first major trip to the USA . In the next few years many other jobs followed, during which he met and photographed Neil Diamond , Ike & Tina Turner , Jethro Tull , Baccara , Peter Fonda , Ringo Starr , Paul McCartney , Pink Floyd , Queen and Deep Purple , among others . He also designed a number of LP and single covers for the Bellamy Brothers , Deep Purple, Peter Maffay , Udo Jürgens , the German national soccer team and Boney M.

The bands and artists he photographed in the 1980s included a. Depeche Mode , Duran Duran , Cyndi Lauper , Shakin Stevens and Boy George and Culture Club as well as representatives of Neue Deutsche Welle such as Nena , Markus , Ideal , Trio , Kraftwerk and Nina Hagen . From the end of the 1980s to around 2000 he worked exclusively as a photographer for David Hasselhoff , after which he published a series of illustrated books from his picture inventory for the Berlin publishing house Schwarzkopf und Schwarzkopf . Didi Zill now lives in Unterföhring near Munich and runs his own photo agency.
