The 17th Junior Eurovision Song Contest took place on November 24, 2019 in the Polish city of Gliwice , after Roksana Węgiel won the previous year's competition in Belarus. It was the first time that Poland hosted a Eurovision Song Contest. It was also the first Eurovision event in Poland since Eurovision Young Dancers 2013 in Gdansk .
A total of 19 countries competed this year, including Spain for the first time in 13 years. Poland won the competition again and thus for the first time there was a home win and two victories in a row in this competition
venue
The contest was held in the fourth largest city in Silesia , Gliwice. The Gliwice Arena can accommodate up to 17,178 spectators and is one of the largest sports and event halls in the country. It only opened in May 2018.
Before Poland was announced as host, both Armenia and Kazakhstan had been traded as possible replacement candidates. Due to the climatic conditions in the Kazakh capital Nur-Sultan , the competition would have been moved to the warmer month of October; in addition, this would have been the first case in which an associate member of the EBU would have hosted an EBU event as the broadcaster Khabar is not a full member. It would also contradict the rules of the ESC, according to which z. B. the also only associated EBU member from Australia is allowed to organize the competition in cooperation with a European institution.
It was the sixth time that the competition was held in the country of the previous year's winner. The winner's right to be the first country to be offered to host the event in the following year was only established in 2013 at the JESC and was handled this way every year until 2018.
Just a few days after the previous year's competition, on December 10, 2018, Poland was announced as the host country. Reports had previously been published that the contest would take place in Krakow . It was the first time since the 2014 competition in Marsa that it did not take place in the capital of the respective country because no suitable hall was available in Warsaw .
format
Logo and slogan
On May 13, 2019, the motto Share The Joy was published together with the logo. It shows a kite kite in the colors purple, blue and pink, which is supposed to symbolize freedom, light and shared joy. Flying a kite is a recreational sport that is especially popular with children, which fits in with the basic idea of the competition.

Cancel
These countries have canceled their participation, including both former participants and countries that have never entered the competition.
- Bulgaria : BNT had already confirmed several times, most recently in June 2018, that it was currently not interested in a return. However, in the course of a leadership change due in 2019, it was announced that the station's new management body might be interested in the JESC. The latest reports, according to which the station is facing bankruptcy, speak rather against participation in the near future.
- Germany : The broadcaster KiKA from ARD and ZDF confirmed again that Germany will not participate in 2019 because the competition does not appear in the already completed program planning for 2019. However, one is in contact with the NDR , which is in charge of ESC for ARD.
- Finland : Finnish broadcaster YLE confirmed on June 10, 2019 that the country will not debut in 2019. The reason given was the nature of the event, which put children under unnecessary pressure.
- Israel : On December 27, 2018, KAN announced that it would deal with the JESC in Gliwice in spring 2019. The announcement that they had decided against participating followed on June 13th.
- Latvia : On June 14, 2019, the broadcaster LTV announced that it was primarily focusing on the ESC and the new Eurovision Choir competition and that it was currently not interested in the JESC.
- Montenegro : On June 2, 2019, RTCG confirmed that the country will not return in 2019 either.
- Norway : On April 11, 2019, NRK announced that it would not take part in 2019 either, because the competition does not fit the principles of the station, but it is still being watched.
- Slovakia : According to RTVS spokeswoman Erika Rusnáková, it was announced on June 7, 2019 that the station was currently considering a debut at Junior Eurovision. However, just three days later this report was denied.
- Slovenia : On June 3, 2019, RTVSLO confirmed that it did not want to return due to the high participation fees and the associated costs due to the poor broadcast date on Sunday afternoon.
- United Kingdom : Due to low viewership in 2006, a year after the country's last post at JESC, ITV will not return in 2019 either.
- Cyprus : On June 10, 2019, CyBC announced that it did not want to return in 2019 due to a management decision.
Without giving reasons, the following countries refused to participate:
