childhood

Węgiel was born in Jasło, Poland in 2005. As a child she did gymnastics and danced and also took part in international judo competitions. At the age of eight she started singing because of a karaoke concert at a judo camp in Croatia.

Career

Węgiel's singing career began in 2017 when she took part in the first season of the Polish version of The Voice Kids . In their blind audition she sang Halo by Beyoncé , whereupon all three coaches turned around for them. She joined the team of Polish singer Edyta Górniak , who represented Poland at the 1994 Eurovision Song Contest . Ultimately, Węgiel won the season in the final on February 24, 2018, where she played Górniak's Eurovision contribution To nie ja! and her single Żyj sang. After her victory, she got a contract with Universal Music Polska and released her second single Obiecuję . In October 2018, Węgiel and Górniak recorded the single Zatrzymać chwilę , which was part of the soundtrack of the Polish version of the film Hotel Transylvania 3 - A Monster Vacation .

On September 21, 2018, Węgiel was announced as the Polish representative at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2018. Her song Anyone I Want to Be was written by Polish singer Lanberry, Danish producer Cutfather, British-American songwriter Maegan Cottone and Danish-Norwegian musician Daniel Heløy Davidsen. In the competition on November 25th Węgiel won with 215 points. It came seventh in the jury and first in the public vote. Węgiel ensured Poland's first victory at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest .

In 2019, Węgiel released her first international song called Lay Low , for which she received a lot of criticism as the song was considered inappropriate for her age.

At the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2019, Węgiel presented alongside Ida Nowakowska and Aleksander Sikora. In addition, she sang her winning song from the previous year during the voting break.

At the 2019 MTV Europe Music Awards , she won the Best Polish Act award. In October of the same year she also went on her first tour, The X Tour Roxie .

Private

Węgiel's parents are called Rafał and Edyta. She has two younger brothers, Maksymilian and Tymoteusz. From November 2018 to mid-2019, she is said to have dated the Belarusian singer Daniel Yastremski, whom she met at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest. The Polish media also claimed that she was in a dispute with Viki Gabor , presumably because they are both Polish winners of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest and are of similar age. However, Węgiel denied this, claiming that she kept her fingers crossed for Viki from the start.
