The 1st Eurovision Young Dancers took place on June 16, 1985 at the Teatro Municipale, in Reggio Emilia , Italy .
Arantxa Argüelles from Spain won the first competition. The Norwegian participant Arne Fagerholt took second place, while the Swedish duo Mia Stagh & Göran Svalberg took third place.
venue
The first edition of the competition took place in Italy and was organized by the Italian television station RAI . RAI chose the Teatro Municipale in Reggio Emilia as the venue .
format
Dancers between the ages of 16 and 21 could perform. However, only solo dancers or couples could compete. A three-person jury then selected the first three places. The placements of the remaining participants remain unknown. The chairman of the jury was the Danish dancer Peter Schaufuss . Otherwise, less is known about how the first competition took place in 1985.
Moderation
The British presenter Humphrey Burton and the British ballet dancer Annette Page acted as moderators.
Attendees
A total of eleven countries made their debut at the first Eurovision Young Dancers in 1985. With the exception of the Netherlands, all of these countries also took part in the 1985 Eurovision Song Contest at the same time .
final
Eleven countries competed against each other. The titles of the dances remained unknown. Only the first three places were announced.
Before the final, the dancer Viviana Durante was exchanged for Maria Almeida among the British participants for unknown reasons.
