Peter Schaufuss

Peter Schaufuss (born April 26, 1949 in Copenhagen ) is a Danish dancer, choreographer and ballet master who teaches at the Det Kongelige Teaters ballet school.

Career

Peter Schaufuss began in the late 1960s at the Royal Theater in Copenhagen, where he had great success with Ache with the rock ballet De Homine Urbano , which premiered in January 1970. He was then a solo dancer in several foreign troupes until he received the post of ballet master at the London Festival Ballet from 1984 to 1990, and then also at the Deutsche Oper Berlin from 1990 to 1994 and the Royal Ballet 1994/1995.

In 1997 he founded the Peter Schaufuss Ballet in Holstebro . In 2009 it consisted of 15 dancers, mostly foreigners, and has toured Denmark and abroad throughout the period. In 2009 the Peter Schaufuss Ballet performed a ballet based on the rock opera Tommy by The Who at Vejle Musiktheater (premiere September 18, 2009). After a dispute with the Holstebro municipality over the establishment of a new ballet in the city, Schaufuss lost municipal support and from 2010 also the state.
