The 46th Eurovision Song Contest took place on May 12, 2001 in the Danish capital, Copenhagen . The venue was the Parken Stadium . The spectacle was moderated by Natasja Crone and Søren Pilmark , who presented their announcements and interim texts partly in rhyme form.
particularities
The songs from Spain , Sweden , France , Slovenia and Greece were considered favorites beforehand . Ultimately, the Estonian contribution Everybody won, presented by Tanel Padar and Aruba- born Dave Benton and their background group 2XL . The host Denmark took second place; The song Never Ever Let You Go , sung in country style by Rollo & King , was a favorite in Germany too . The Turkey , represented by Sevgiliye son of Sedat Yüce (11th place), received only seven points in this ranking.
Germany was the only German-speaking country to take part, represented by Michelle , who was eighth with the title Who Love Lives . The Netherlands also competed with an artist named Michelle, her full name being Michelle Courtens. Out on My Own was only 19.
This year the Barbara Dex Award , initiated by a fan site, was presented for the fifth time. The “worst” outfit of the competition is to be awarded with this price, which should not be taken very seriously. This year's winner was Piasek from Poland.
Attendees
Greece took part in the competition again. Macedonia, Cyprus, Switzerland, Austria and Romania, Belgium and Finland had to sit out due to their poor performance in previous years, and again after a one-year forced break were Poland, Lithuania, Slovenia, Portugal and Bosnia-Herzegovina. A total of 23 countries took part. For the first time since 1989 , no participant returned to the competition.
Voting procedure
This year the EBU introduced a mix of voting for the first time (50% televoting and 50% jury). For the countries that did not want this, a 100% televoting could be carried out. According to the EBU rules (published on October 5, 2000), each participating country was free to choose which voting system would be implemented. In exceptional cases in which televoting was not possible, only one jury was used: Bosnia and Herzegovina , Turkey and Russia . Only a few countries opted for the mixed voting procedure: Croatia , Greece and Malta . The ten best songs received 12, 10, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 and one point.
