The 8th Eurovision Song Contest took place on March 23, 1963 in London and thus, contrary to custom, not in the winning country of the previous year, France . It was moderated again by Katie Boyle.

particularities

Label of the single Dansevise by Grethe and Jørgen Ingmann, German pressing from 1963

The competition took place in two halls; The audience and presenter were in a different room than the artists. There were also no microphones to be seen and the conversion between the performances went very quickly, giving the impression that the music contributions had been recorded beforehand, which was not the case. The competition was won by Grethe & Jörgen Ingmann , who started for Denmark with the song Dansevise .

This time the following four countries did not receive any points: Finland, the Netherlands, Norway and Sweden.

A minor scandal occurred with the voting, which should be announced in the starting order. When the Norwegian spokesman announced his votes in a different order and was informed of this by the moderator Katie Boyle, he asked for a time to think before the end of the vote, which was granted. At the end of the vote - with the fictitious inclusion of the votes previously passed for Norway, Switzerland would have been in the lead - the spokesman for Norway announced his assessment again; However, it differed from the previous one, so that Denmark was now ahead. At the end of the 1990s, the old scoring sheets could be found. It turned out that the second Norwegian result was correct and Denmark had rightly won.

Monaco also had to announce the ratings again, as 1 point was awarded twice in the first reading. As a result, Luxembourg was deducted a point that had previously been incorrectly credited.
