The 10th Junior Eurovision Song Contest took place on December 1st, 2012 in the Heineken Music Hall in Amsterdam ( Netherlands ).
Attendees
With twelve participating countries, the competition was the smallest since 2003. With Macedonia, Lithuania, Latvia and Bulgaria, four countries that had still participated in 2011 canceled the contest in Amsterdam. However, the EBU was able to persuade three new countries to participate: Israel, Albania and Azerbaijan all competed for the first time, Azerbaijan withdrew two years later and did not return until 2018. Albania and Israel stopped participating the following year, but returned in 2015 and 2016 respectively.
After Katya Ryabova, Lerika was the second interpreter to return to JESC, albeit not for the same country: in 2011 she competed for Moldova and in 2012 won the Russian preliminary round. Anastassija Petryk, the winner, has an older sister, Wiktorija Petryk, who was also in Amsterdam and accompanied her. Wiktoria came second at the JESC 2008 in Limassol. Thus the Petryk sisters are the most successful siblings in the competition with a first and a second place.
particularities
The show was opened by last year's interpreter from the Netherlands, Rachel Traets, who sang the ESC winning title Euphoria von Loreen . The moderator Kim-Lian van der Meij and the winner of 2009, Ralf Mackenbach, also took the breaks . Van der Meij sang the title Break The Ice , a song that was written especially for this competition based on its motto. In addition, all twelve performers appeared together on stage to sing the song We Can Be Heroes together .
Kim-Lian van der Meij is the first moderator to have moderated the JESC several times. She was the presenter of the competition in Rotterdam in 2007 . With 12 entries, this was the smallest Eurovision Song Contest since 1970, when the ESC also took place in Amsterdam.

particularities
Lerika, who this year competed for Russia with her song Sensatsiya and in 2011 took 6th place with the song No, No for Moldau, is the first singer at JESC to appear for two different countries. Last year Russia was represented by a returnee (Jekatreina Ryabova), although there is a rule that prohibits multiple participation in the JESC.
