  • The 16th Eurovision Young Musicians took place on May 11, 2012 in Vienna , the capital of Austria . It was the sixth competition and the fourth in a row that took place in Vienna. Before the actual final, semifinals were held on May 5th and 6th, 2012. Pia Strauss moderated the semifinals, while Martin Grubinger moderated the finals.

    Rathausplatz is located in Vienna's 1st district, the Inner City. It is named after the (new) Vienna City Hall that was built here. Due to its size, its design and the architecture of the buildings bordering the square, it is one of the most important squares in the center of Vienna.

    format

    All participants from the EBU member countries who took part in the competition initially competed in one of the two semi-finals. Seven of them were selected by an international jury to perform live on May 11, 2012 on Vienna's Rathausplatz. All participants performed solo and were not allowed to exceed the age limit of 20 years. The finalists were accompanied by the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Cornelius Meister .
