The 21st Eurovision Song Contest - officially the Eurovisie Song Festival 1976 - took place on April 3, 1976 in The Hague , the seat of government in the Netherlands . The event, in which 18 countries took part after the withdrawal of Malta , Sweden and Turkey and the return of Greece and Austria, was moderated by Corry Brokken , who herself took part in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1956 , 1957 and 1958 and even in 1957 could win. The winners of this event were the British formation Brotherhood of Man with the title Save Your Kisses for Me, which is the best-selling contest entry of all time with six million records sold. Second place went to Cathérine Ferry for France , while Monaco took third place.
particularities
In the German preliminary decision, which took place under the title Ein Lied für Den Haag , Tony Marshall was actually able to prevail with the title Der Star , but this was later disqualified because it dates from 1973. That's why the second-placed Les Humphries Singers were allowed to drive to The Hague with the Sing Sang Song . The group, however, could not break the streak of bad luck in Germany and only came in 15th. For the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, Jürgen Marcus, a German singer, started with Chansons pour ceux qui s'aiment ("Songs for those who love each other") - or in the German-language version The Tingler plays for all of you - but it only took 14th place.
The other two German-speaking countries, Switzerland and Austria, each sang in English and thus had more success. The Austrian duo Waterloo & Robinson took fifth place with My Little World , while the Swiss trio Peter, Sue & Marc came fourth with Djambo, Djambo .
Malta had carried out a preliminary decision for this competition, which, as in 1974, was won by the singer Enzo Guzman. However, as in 1974, participation was withdrawn shortly before the competition. Guzman should have represented the island nation with the song Sing Your Song, Country Boy .
Liechtenstein also tried to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest. The song Little Cowboy by the singer Biggi Bachmann was selected in Vaduz in November 1975 . However, the EBU did not allow Liechtenstein because it did not have its own television station.
Turkey (not participating) broadcast the competition on Turkish television, but interrupted the live broadcast when the Greek contribution was shown to broadcast the Turkish song "Memleketim" (My Country) instead. The Turkish government had already tried to intervene at the Dutch Foreign Ministry beforehand to prevent Greece from participating in the short term, as the song was "anti-Turkish propaganda".
Attendees
Although Austria and Greece participated again, the number of participants decreased to 18, as this time Malta, Sweden and Turkey did not send a song to The Hague. Swedes, who had won only two years earlier with ABBA's " Waterloo ", officially justified their absence with the inferior music of the competition, for which there was no place on Swedish television.
Voting procedure
The same voting procedure from the previous year was applied. In each country there was an eleven-member jury, which initially determined the ten best songs internally. Then the individual juries awarded 12, 10, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 points and 1 point to these ten best songs.

Scoring
* The table is arranged vertically according to the order of appearance, horizontally according to the chronological scoring. During the vote, the French points spokesman André Claveau forgot to read out the awarding of the 4 points by the jury, which should go to Yugoslavia. This was only corrected after the vote.
