Peter Reber (born April 28, 1949 in Bern ; resident in Schangnau ) is a Swiss songwriter and singer . Until 1981 he was a member of the group Peter, Sue & Marc , one of the most successful Swiss bands of the 20th century. After Peter, Sue & Marc broke up, a no less successful solo career began. In 2016 he received the Swiss Music Award for his life's work.

Life

After the group broke up, Reber fulfilled a dream by buying a sailing ship and crossing the Atlantic with his wife Livia . In 1984 he contacted us from afar with his LP Grüeni Banane . The album stormed the Swiss charts , and Reber released other albums with songs about his journey as a result.

His son Simon was born on the way. In 1989, Reber loaded his ship onto a truck, drove it across the United States to the Pacific, and continued his journey towards Alaska, polar bears and humpback whales. The 1990 album Ufem Wäg nach Alaska features the most popular Reber hit, Ds Hippygspängstli . During his trip, his daughter Nina was born in 1992 .

After his trip was over, Reber and his family settled in the Bahamas . In 1995 he returned to Switzerland because his son started school. Reber continued his career and in 1998 first released the regular album Timbuktu and immediately afterwards the CD Winterzyt - Wiehnachtszyt, which was a great success with the public.

Another Christmas CD was released in November 2004 with Winterland ; He sang in duets with his daughter Nina on almost all of the songs.

In January 2006, Reber Rock was released, an homage album in which 26 Swiss bands took part. They interpreted his most famous hits in very different styles.

The album Himel & Ärde from November 2006 also achieved platinum status within a few weeks. Reber then published - again with daughter Nina - traditionals and Christmas carols .

When the band Santiano surprisingly stormed the charts in Germany in 2013 , Reber was asked if he would like to be part of their Swiss tour. Reber agreed and contributed new versions of his own seaman's songs in written German. The Swiss special edition of the plate Mit den Gezeiten , which contains some of these new versions, reached number 8 in Switzerland.

Peter Reber received numerous gold and platinum records and CDs with Peter, Sue & Marc and later as a solo artist . On November 25, 2007, he finally received the diamond record; In total he has sold over two million records. Reber belongs to the top group of Swiss musicians. He also composed numerous songs for other artists, such as Swiss Lady for Pepe Lienhard and Cinema for Paola .
