Grüeni banana

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Grüeni Banane ( German  Green Banane ) is Peter Reber's second solo album and the first that was created after Peter, Sue & Marc broke up . The album was released in 1985 on CD and LP . It entered the Swiss album charts at number 8, rose to position 4 and stayed in the charts for a total of 40 weeks.

Emergence

After the band Peter, Sue & Marc broke up in 1981, Reber bought a sailing ship ( Cindy ). He and his wife traveled from Holland, first across the Bay of Biscay to the Canary Islands and then across the Atlantic to the Caribbean. The songs were created during the trip and many report vividly about the experiences on the way. Reber had built a piano into his ship especially for his work as a composer and musician. He also plays the guitar.

Reber composed, written and interpreted all the tracks on the record himself. The record was released while he was in the Caribbean and Venezuela . He found out about the success late on the phone.

title

Grüeni Banana 03:56

This piece is about a lost love and all the things he (the singer) would do to make her return. Among other things, he would voluntarily eat (unripe) green bananas and walk barefoot through the fire .

Stürmischi Zyte 04:50

Reber sings about stormy times that everyone has to go through sometimes. It is only in retrospect that you sometimes realize what that taught you. Real storms are just a picture of these situations.

D'Chinder of Columbus 02:47

This is a hyme to all seafarers and their (present-day) descendants, to whom Reber apparently counts himself.

“When the wanderlust seizes you,
De trybts se across the ocean,

yes es sy d'Chinder from Columbus
Es sy d'Söhn from Magellan
U si choufe your freedom
with em weigh across the ocean.”

"If we get wanderlust,
it sends us across the ocean.

We are the children of Columbus ,
We are the sons of Magellan
and we buy our freedom
by crossing the ocean "

- Peter Reber (dialect version and version for Santiano)

The text is about weathered storms - this time real ones - and wanderlust. The song has been covered several times, including by Daniel Kandlbauer and Reber's daughter Nina . In 2013 Reber recorded a written German version of the piece together with the successful German surprise band Santiano and went on tour with it. It can be found on the Swiss special edition of the album Mit den Gezeiten as well as on the new edition of the German edition.

Üse Bäri 02:31

This song is about Bäri, a mixed breed dog.

Transatlantic Blues 04:32

This piece describes the experiences, loneliness and hardships during an Atlantic crossing on a sailing ship, as Reber experienced himself.

E chli forever 03:50

Reber celebrates his Eternal City , but not Rome or Venice , but his hometown Bern . However, the name of the city does not appear in the text.

E bird without wings 3:23 pm

This is a tribute to Reber's wife, Livia. Without you I would be a bird without wings, he sings. This track was also released as a single. On the B-side was D'Chinder from Columbus .

Travel bug 04:46

This piece tells about the wanderlust that some people experience when they receive a postcard from afar.

Beni 03:57

A rather melancholy piece about the life of a homeless person and falling into crime.

Tue old saws 04:13

Once upon a time, large sailing ships were the pride of their crew. They went out year after year, confident that their ship would bring them safely to their destination and back home. But the days of sailing ships are over, so the ships are being dismantled , forgotten and rotten. But now there is hope again: people who are committed to the preservation of these historic vehicles and who do a lot to ensure that they can be repaired and driven again.

This piece can also be found on the Mit den Gezeiten CD by Santiano in a new, written German version: “The old sailors are still alive, they have never died. They dream of old seaman's yarn and now they are waking up. "

Dolphin 02:20

Dolphins quite often accompany sailing ships for a certain time. The song tells of the experience of seeing them play around the bow and the ship.

Aunt Trudi 3:45

A quick melody with lyrics in the style of an early rap, about an aunt who doesn't fit into a classic scheme and instead of knitting and doing homework, prefers to tinker with her heavy motorcycle and go on tours with it. Unfortunately, then suddenly the engine can no longer be switched off, so that she has to race around the area until the tank is empty.
