Pepe Lienhard (born March 23, 1946 in Lenzburg ; full name Peter Rudolf Lienhard ) is a Swiss band leader , saxophonist , flautist and arranger . Today he lives in Frauenfeld .

Live and act

Pepe Lienhard founded a band under the name "The College Stompers" while still at school. After leaving school, he studied law . However, he broke off his studies in 1969 and founded a professional sextet with whom he recorded numerous records. Her first success was Sheila Baby . In 1977 the group (with the alphorn virtuoso Mostafa Kafa'i Azimi) with the title Swiss Lady (music + text: Peter Reber ) took part in the Eurovision Song Contest for Switzerland and reached 6th place.

From 1995 to 2011 he led the Swiss Army Big Band .

Pepe Lienhard Orchestra

In 1980 Pepe Lienhard founded a big band, the Pepe Lienhard Orchestra, with which he appears at many galas, opera balls, press balls and the German Film Ball. Pepe Lienhard and his orchestra were among others with Sammy Davis jr. and Frank Sinatra on tour and for 30 years the accompanying orchestra of Udo Jürgens . The orchestra was also seen on the television program Let's Dance on RTL until the second season (2006) . Since 2016, the Pepe Lienhard Big Band has accompanied the singers' live performances on the annual MDR broadcast Kulthits from the Leipzig Congress Hall .

Awards

Lienhard received the Swiss Jazz Lifetime Achievement Award in 2006 for his life's work .
