Swiss Jazz Award

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Swiss Jazz Award , which has been presented since 2007, is the oldest jazz prize in Switzerland . It is also the only Swiss jazz prize in which the audience decides on the winning band in a music competition . The prize is awarded by Radio Swiss Jazz and the JazzAscona festival with the support of Migros Culture Percentage .

Allocation mode

Since 2007, the Swiss jazz formation has been honored annually (except in 2017), which in the course of a year was most popular with the listeners of Radio Swiss Jazz. In the first few years, the winner was determined by online voting, in which every Swiss jazz fan can cast one vote. Since 2011, the results of the online voting have been used to select three bands, which will then be rated by the audience of the JazzAscona festival in a live competition on the last evening of the festival. Since 2013, the public vote has been supplemented by the assessment of an expert jury; this selects the five Swiss jazz formations which, with a CD released in the past 18 months, met with the greatest approval among the listeners of Radio Swiss Jazz.

The award ceremony and a concert by the winning formation will take place as part of JazzAscona.
