Raphael Jost

Raphael Jost (born April 5, 1988 ) is a Swiss musician ( vocals , piano ) who is active in jazz and pop .

Live and act

Jost grew up in Basadingen in the Swiss canton of Thurgau and began playing the piano at the age of six. His interest in singing was sparked by Jamie Cullum at the age of 18 . He completed his music studies in jazz piano at the Zurich University of the Arts , where he a. a. studied with Andy Harder, Chris Wiesendanger and a minor in jazz singing with Marion Denzler. He received his master's degree in music education / performance in 2013.

In spring 2014 Jost released his debut album Don't Blame Me , which he recorded for the most part with his eight-piece formation Raphael Jost & lots of horns . In 2015 he released an album with his Standards Trio . He kicked u. a. at the Montreux Jazz Festival (2011), the Cheltenham Jazz Festival, the International Jaffa Jazz Festival Tel Aviv, the Schaffhauser Jazz Festival , the Blue Balls Festival Lucerne or the Winterthur Music Festival .

In October 2018 Jost released the album Moosedays on the Enja Records label . Recorded with his band Raphael Jost & lots of horns in a recording studio near Gothenburg , the work contains 12 songs, 10 of which are their own compositions.

Prizes and awards

Jost was awarded the Soloist Prize at the European Junior Jazz Prize as part of the Burghausen Jazz Week in 2012. He was nominated for the Jazz Prize of the Zürcher Kantonalbank in 2013. In 2015 he and his band Raphael Jost & lots of horns received the Swiss Jazz Award .
