Jazz award

A jazz prize is an award for exceptional achievements in the field of jazz music or a sponsorship prize for the development of younger jazz musicians .

Overview

The Grammy Award has a section for jazz. The German Echo Prize also had a section for jazz until 2009, and an ECHO Jazz has been awarded since 2010 . Most popular in jazz are the Critics Polls and Readers Polls from Down Beat magazine , which are also broken down by instrument.

The international Jazzpar Prize, which was awarded annually in Denmark until 2004, was the most important jazz prize with its prize money of 200,000 Dk, the numerous concerts and the included CD productions. The highest official award in the "motherland" of jazz is the Jazz Master of the US Art Foundation .

Some major European jazz awards are named after celebrities in jazz music - e.g. B. in Austria after Hans Koller , in Germany after Albert Mangelsdorff , in the Netherlands after Boy Edgar and Charlie Parker ( Bird Award ) , in France the Prix Django Reinhardt and prizes of the Académie de named after Martial Solal and after Bobby Jaspar and Boris Vian Jazz . The Django d'Or , also named after Django Reinhardt, is now available for France, Belgium , Denmark , Italy and Sweden .

In the German-speaking countries, music prizes for jazz are often awarded by local authorities (state, federal state , individual cities ) or by radio stations , some also by jazz associations or as part of special festivals . Some prizes were also donated by individuals (for example, Nuremberg publisher Bruno Schnell's International Jazz Prize of the Nürnberger Nachrichten ). Most of them are endowed with prize money of 5,000 to 15,000 euros .

German Jazz Prize (awarded every two years) by the Union of German Jazz Musicians . It was donated in 1994 in honor of Albert Mangelsdorff.

Austrian Hans Koller Prize , now biennially in 5 categories. It was founded in 1996 by the Austrian Federal Chancellery and other sponsors and awarded until 2009.
