from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Baden-Württemberg Jazz Prize is an annual award to promote excellent young musicians in the field of jazz .

In 1985, the government of the federal state of Baden-Württemberg founded this jazz prize , which can be awarded to jazz musicians who are not older than 35 years. They should either live in Baden-Württemberg or have a close relationship with the state through their artistic work. The prize is endowed with 15,000 euros as well as a winners concert. The winners are selected by an independent jury , which is chaired by Bernd Konrad from the start and which includes other experts such as the journalist Gudrun Endress , the musicians Frieder Berlin , Frédéric Rabold and Thomas Siffling or the SWR jazz editor Günther Huesmann . Since 2015, a musician has also been honored for his life's work.

The jazz prize is now widely recognized far beyond the state of Baden-Württemberg. Many award winners have established themselves well in the scene, some are internationally successful.
