Torsten Krill

Torsten Krill (* 24. March 1971 in Ansbach ) is a German drummer of modern jazz and composer of radio plays .

Live and act

Krill began playing the drums in school bands with whom he played soul and funk ; he came to jazz through records by John Coltrane . He first studied at the Frankfurt Music Workshop , then at the Stuttgart University of Music and Performing Arts . After initially playing with Sebastian Studnitzky in the combo Die Studenten , in 1998 he formed the trio Tales in Tones with Veit Hübner and Ralf Schmid and toured with Herb Ellis , Richie Beirach , Bobby Shew , Don Rader , Jiggs Whigham , Ernst Reijseger , Hakim Ludin , Claus Stötter and others. In 1998 he also founded his own studio and the label frimfram . He played in the backing band of Nana Mouskouri ; from 2001 to 2009 he was a member of the Cécile Verny Quartet . He can also be heard on records by Rainer Tempel , Martin Schrack , Pee Wee Ellis , the Stuttgart guitar trio, Frank Kuruc and Ron Spielman . In addition, he wrote the music for several radio plays. He produced the music for the audio book Die Verwesung by Simon Beckett , which was awarded the Hörkules in 2012 . He also played with Patrick Bebelaar , who also received the Baden-Württemberg jazz prize.

Prizes and awards

With the Thomas Kraus Quartet he received the second prize in the international competition at Jazz à Vienne in 1994 . With Die Studenten he won first prize in the SDR / Mercedes-Benz jazz competition in 1996 and second prize in the international competition at the Breda jazz festival in 1997. With the trio Schmid / Hübner / Krill he won the nationwide competition Hennessy Jazz Search in 1999 . In 2006 he received the Baden-Württemberg Jazz Prize . He produced the album Painting Pop by Joo Kraus & Tales in Tones Trio, which received an Echo Jazz , and was also involved as a drummer.
