Claus Stötter

Claus Stötter (* 9. March 1961 in Heidelberg ) is a German trumpeter of modern jazz .

Claus Stötter began to learn his instrument when he was ten. He played in the Musikverein Bönnigheim before studying classical trumpet in Stuttgart. As a jazz musician he is self-taught . In 1982 he and his trio "Jazz Vision" won first prize in the state competition of Jugend jazzt . In 1986 he expanded the band to the quintet "Nevertheless" with Dizzy Krisch , Matthias Erlewein , Karoline Höfler and Walter Mutschler, which recorded several albums and still exists today (with bassist Yves Torchinsky on bass and drummer François Laizeau in the rhythm section). Between 1991 and 1995 Stötter, who was living in Paris during this time , belonged to the Orchester National de Jazz under the direction of Denis Badault and Laurent Cugny . Since 1999 he has been the solo trumpeter of the NDR Big Band in Hamburg. He also belongs since 2012 to the Second Generation of the United Jazz + Rock Ensemble of Wolfgang Dauner . He also worked with the big band of the Süddeutscher Rundfunk , with Günter Lenz's "Springtime" and with Albert Mangelsdorff , Harry Pepl , Erwin Lehn , Johnny Griffin , Klaus König , Marilyn Mazur , Riccardo Del Fra , Pee Wee Ellis , Florian Ross , Colin Towns , Michael Gibbs , Laura Macdonald , Hans Koller or Jean-Marie Machado .

In 1990 Stötter received the Baden-Württemberg Jazz Prize . Between 1989 and 2006 he lectured on jazz trumpet at the Stuttgart University of Music and Performing Arts . Since 2008 he has been part of the team of jazz lecturers at the Hamburg University of Music and Theater .
