Matthias Erlewein

Matthias Erlewein (* 1961 in Heilbronn ) is a German jazz musician ( tenor saxophone , flute , also other saxophones ).

Live and act

Matthias Erlewein played from the early 1980s a. a. in Manfred Kniel's formation Human Music Association , and in the formations Transfusion, Human Music Association and RE (with Andreas Witte, Bernd Hufnagel, Horst Götz), in the following decade with Claus Stötter's band Nevertheless and in the orchestras of Peter Herbolzheimer , Thilo Berg , Paul Kuhn , Rainer Tempel and Chris Walden . From the 2000s he worked in productions of the New Art Orchestra by Bob Brookmeyer ( Waltzing with Zoe ), the WDR Big Band , hr-Bigband , the NDR Bigband and the SWR Big Band as well as George Gruntz , Hiram Bullock and Johannes Lauer ( Lauer Large ). In the field of jazz he was involved in 35 recording sessions between 1982 and 2015, most recently in 2015 with the SWR Big Band on the Hommage à Eberhard Weber (ECM) under the direction of Helge Sunde and Mike Gibbs . He can also be heard on recordings by Wolfgang Niedecken ( Schlagzeiten , 1987), Helen Schneider and Pe Werner .
