Petra Malou "Pe" Werner (born October 13, 1960 in Heidelberg ) is a German singer, composer , lyricist, book author and cabaret artist .

Life

Pe Werner was born in Heidelberg and grew up in southern Hesse . Her parents were to 1957 in Dresden in East Germany , before entering the home Federal Republic of Germany relocated . At the age of three she recited Wilhelm Busch poems, later played Polly in Brecht's Die Dreigroschenoper at the youth stage at her school and has been composing her own songs since she was 16.

After passing his Abitur , Werner could be found in the cabaret and cabaret scene in her hometown and the surrounding region in the 1980s, including in the ensemble of the Kabarett Dusch , a Mannheim political cabaret. She had guest appearances in Dieter Hildebrandts windshield wiper and received the Swiss Cabaret Prize with the Duo PS .

Her debut album Weibsbilder (1989) with pop songs from her own pen found great recognition in the music industry. In 1991, the nationwide breakthrough came with the album Tingling in the stomach . She received a gold record for tingling in her stomach and was awarded two echoes .

In addition to pop music, she also devotes herself to other artistic projects. In 1992 she toured Germany with the solo cabaret program Der kleine Lebenshunger in between ; In 2002, her first book, More Than A Tingling In Your Belly , was published, and in 2006, the audio book, Seals of All Kinds .

In her solo concerts she always appears together with the pianist Peter Grabinger, who accompanies her on the piano and sometimes also works as an accompanist.

The benefit concert Cover me, which has been held annually since 2002, by the Kölner AIDS-Hilfe in favor of the Lebenshaus Foundation , initiated by Dirk Bach , has been musically supported by Pe Werner since the beginning.

Werner also writes and composes for other artists, including a. Petra Zieger , Katja Ebstein , Milva , Barbara Schöneberger , Stefan Gwildis , Mireille Mathieu , Bernd Stelter , Michelle and Mary Roos . On March 6, 2008, she took part in the German preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest 2008 as a songwriter for Carolin Fortenbacher with the title Hinterm Ozean . In the final, the title took just under second place behind the No Angels with 49.5% .

Her eleventh album Im Mondrausch was released by Warner Music in 2009 and received the German Jazz Award in 2011 . This was followed by CD productions with the WDR Big Band Cologne ( with large cutlery ) and the Marlene Dietrich Hommage Von Kopf bis Fuß in cooperation with Götz Alsmann , Tim Fischer and the WDR Rundfunkorchester Köln as well as the live album Turteltaub with the Trio de Luxe.

In November 2013 the album Ne Pinch Zimt was released with self-composed winter and Christmas carols accompanied by the hr big band and the German Film Orchestra Babelsberg . She presents the titles from it in her stage show Gans or not at all! accompanied by the Trio de Luxe.

In 2015 Pe Werner celebrated their 25th record anniversary with concerts and released their anniversary album Von A nach Pe , which was created in cooperation with the WDR Big Band Cologne and the WDR Rundfunkorchester Cologne under the direction of Jörg Achim Keller .

In 2018, Pe Werner was elected to the advisory board of the German Lyricists Association and became a deputy member of the GEMA supervisory board .

She has been working on the titles for her new album since the beginning of 2020: The Hommage CD for the composer Bert Kaempfert with German texts written by her is due to be released in October 2020.

Pe Werner is at home in Cologne .

Collaborations

Up until 2003 further single CDs were released, some of which contained abbreviated versions of songs already published on albums. The single I won't get rid of the feeling , released in 1994, was the only single to contain a non-album track ( With the branches ). On the 1996 released single Herbstzeitlos is the otherwise unreleased English version of Etepetete ( Mother's Silk Velvet ). The single Berlin , which can otherwise only be found on the compilation Die Hits , also contains live versions of Tingling in the Belly and the Udo Lindenberg cover Unter'm Säufermond , which can be found in different versions on Pe Werner albums . Since 2004 only promo singles have been made and some download singles have been published.
