Petra Zieger (born March 25, 1959 in Erfurt ) is a German rock singer.

Life

After an apprenticeship as a tailor for women , Petra Zieger attended the district music school in Erfurt and then studied singing at the “Franz Liszt” University of Music in Weimar . From 1976 she appeared as a soloist with the Erfurt Dance Orchestra and sang in an Erfurt big band. It was there that Petra Zieger met her current husband, Peter Taudte, who was the drummer in the band.

When Taudte became the drummer for the rock band "Phonoclecs" in 1980, he insisted that Zieger be hired as a singer. That was the start of Petra Zieger's career, which continues to this day. She made her first television appearance with a cover title by Kim Wilde , Checkered Love . In 1981, Zieger won a prize at the Goldener Rathausmann hit festival in Dresden and landed her first hit with a cuddle in the hallway .

Two years later Burkhard Lasch brought the two of them to Berlin and founded the band " Petra Zieger & Smokings " with them . On October 7, 1982, Petra Zieger & Smokings had their first television appearance in the youth program around . 1983 followed the first GDR tour with the tuxedos. In the same year she won the " Silver Bong ". The first album Traumzeit was released in 1984. Not only was the title track a hit, but also Superwoman and above all Der Himmel is silent , which brought her victory at the “Golden Lyra” in Bratislava . Further prizes followed. In 1985 she left the tuxedos, which then continued her career as the tuxedos rock show . Since then, Petra Zieger has appeared as "Petra Zieger & Band".

Petra Zieger sings in German. In the mid-1980s, she created her rock music in the GDR with new show elements and thus consolidated her style as a "rock lady". New-wave elements were used as early as the initial success of Cuddling in the Corridor (1982) . She consolidated the catchy rock style at least since the 1986 LP Katzen bei Nacht . Peter Taudte has been composing Petra Zieger's tracks since the early 1990s. The texts are written by several authors such as Michael Sellin .

She celebrated one of her greatest successes in 1989/90 with the song Das Eis taut , which refers to German reunification. An invitation to the USA followed , where she sang in front of 500,000 spectators in Philadelphia .

After the fall of the Wall , Petra Zieger was able to build on her successes and has been touring Germany regularly since then. Zieger had record deals with BMG / Ariola and Polydor as well as appearances on television, radio and the Internet.

In 2006 Zieger and Taudte founded the record label " P2P music " based in Berlin. The most successful album to date, Nimm mich, was produced in their own studio . The rock music style of Petra Zieger was complemented by ballads and chansons . In 2007 the ballad I miss you was released . Thereupon Zieger was invited by Jose Carreras to participate in his ARD donation gala in Leipzig. In 2008 "25 years of Petra Zieger & Band - live on tour" started. In the same year Zieger was invited to the gala of the award ceremony Goldene Henne 2008 in Berlin's Friedrichstadtpalast , where she sang a title in the show part. In 2009 the tour “Petra Zieger & Band - LIVE!” Was continued.

The “Petra Zieger & Band - 2010” tour ran until November 20, 2010. The highlights were the open-air performances on the occasion of “20 Years of Super Illu ” in Leipzig and “11. Dreamtime ”in Erfurt . Traditionally, Petra Zieger & Band open Thuringia's largest party with their hit Traumzeit , which attracts around 11,000 visitors every year. Then the annual Christmas concerts began. In 2011 Zieger started her 2011 tour with Petra Zieger in concert . In addition, the open air concert Gigantic Hits with Michelle and Matthias Reim was installed in August 2011 . The 2012/2013 tour was called 30 Years Petra Zieger & Band . After the live tour in 2014, Petra Zieger & Band were on tour with the Open Air tour in Germany in 2015 .

Political commitment

Since 2008, Petra Zieger has appeared several times for Angela Merkel at election events of the CDU . In the federal presidential election in the 14th Federal Assembly on June 30, 2010 in Berlin , she was the election woman for the CDU. Zieger supported Chancellor Angela Merkel in the 2013 federal election .

Private

Petra Zieger is the daughter of racing cyclist Bruno Zieger . She lives in Berlin and has been married to her manager and band leader Peter Taudte since April 2014.
