Thilo Berg

Thilo Berg (born April 23, 1959 in Dortmund ) is a German drummer who gained attention in the 1980s as a big band leader in modern jazz .

Berg completed a classical percussionist course with Hermann Gschwendtner and worked from 1981 to 2007 as solo timpani and percussionist with the Rundfunkorchester des Südwestrundfunk and until 2008 in the same position with the German Radio Philharmonic . Berg also worked in various bands. In 1986 he founded his big band, which worked with guest soloists such as Barbara Dennerlein , Ack van Rooyen , Jiggs Whigham , Barbara Morrison , Silvia Droste , Jim Snidero , Slide Hampton , Bob Mintzer , Art Farmer and Bill Ramsey . The band, which existed until 1993 and received strong international attention, included musicians such as Till Brönner , Paul Heller , Peter Less , Ludwig Nuss , Mark Nightingale, Gerard Presencer , Martin Shaw and the pianists Hubert Nuss and Thilo Wagner . The work of the big band was documented on three albums. Berg also worked in smaller formations with musicians such as Jack van Poll , Bobby Shew , Heiner Franz , John Gordon , Elaine Delmar and Curtis Fuller .

In 1991 Berg founded the jazz and classical music label Mons Records in Trippstadt and worked as a music producer for Sony , BMG , Columbia and Universal . In 1995, Mons Records was the most successful indie label on American jazz radio stations ( Gavin Report ). Mons Records releases about 15 productions a year. Mons music can be found in various film productions, including Doppelmord ( Double Jeopardy ) with Tommy Lee Jones and Ashley Judd , as well as in American TV shows ( American Idol - so you think you can dance by Swingin 'fireballs ). As the organizer, Thilo Berg produced over 700 jazz, classical, R&B and soul events. In addition to his own productions, he developed concerts, kick-off events and social events for large-scale industry.
