Thilo Wagner (born January 8, 1965 in Brühl ) is a German jazz pianist .

Live and act

Wagner started playing the piano at the age of 5 and then had 12 years of classical piano training. At the age of 18 he founded his first trio. In 1987 he completed his music studies and initially moved into the Frankfurt jazz scene, where he played with Gustl Mayer , among others . In 1990 he toured with Scott Hamilton . In addition, he also appeared with "Alexander's Swingtime Band" and with the Thilo Berg Big Band , but also in smaller formations of the drummer ("Blues For Ella", 1993). He went on tour with Benny Waters , Clark Terry , Randy Sandke and Art Farmer . Since 1994 he has been part of Emil Mangelsdorff's quartet ; he is also a member of the Allotria Jazzband and the Bassface Swing Trio . With his own combo he recorded the CD “Just in Time” (1994, with Klaus Graf , among others ). He has also worked on recordings by Danny Moss , Gerry Hayes / Charly Antolini and numerous other musicians; he has played more than 70 albums so far. He has also performed with Jim Hall and Slide Hampton . Concert tours have taken him all over Europe, the USA and Canada.

In 1998 Wagner won the festival's soloist prize in Vienne . According to the author Martin Kunzler, with him "the German scene has again a swing pianist of high standing".
