Gregor Beck (born April 26, 1958 in Ravensburg ) is a German swing and hot jazz drummer . Building on Sid Catlett , Jo Jones , Gene Krupa , Buddy Rich , but also Herlin Riley, he has found his own style.

Live and act

Beck grew up in Zußdorf and began playing the guitar at the age of nine; at the age of 17 he switched to drums. He initially played country & western and rock music . Until 1981 he studied at the Leopold Mozart Conservatory in Augsburg. First he appeared in the cabaret area ( Die Käsmetiker ). After starting out with the Dirty River Jazz Band in the Lake Constance area, Oscar Klein discovered him in 1979 , who brought him together with Fatty George . Then Beck played with the Tremble Kids . He continued to perform with Oscar Klein, but also with Barbara Dennerlein .

In 1985 he moved to the greater Stuttgart area, where he appeared with Swing Mail Special , the Darktown Jazz Band and Werner Lener , and from 1989 also with Alexander's Swingtime Band and the European Swing Stars , who went on tour with Scott Hamilton and Danny Moss . In 1987 he became a member of the Allotria Jazzband , to which he still belongs. He also played with the Swing All Stars around Charly Höllering (continued as We Remember Charles ). He has toured Great Britain several times with the trumpeter Keith Smith , as well as with Georgie Fame . With Thilo Wagner and Lindy Huppertsberg he forms the group Centerpiece (Three to Get Ready) . He also played with Paul Kuhn , Bill Ramsey and Peter “Banjo” Meyer and has been part of Chris Barber's band since 2010 . He has also performed with Major Holley , Yank Lawson , Woody Shaw , Benny Waters , Clark Terry , Lew Tabackin , Dusko Goykovich , Ack van Rooyen , Schnuckenack Reinhardt , Marianne Mendt , Klaus Doldinger and Red Holloway .

The album Echoes of Swing with Ralph Sutton was voted best live recording of 1998 by the English Jazz Journal . The CD Happy Together with Ken Peplowski , Jesper Thilo , Thilo Wagner and Isla Eckinger was proposed for the 2008 German Record Prize.
