The Allotria Jazzband is a combo that was founded in Munich in 1969 and is committed to traditional jazz .

history

The formation, founded by Gerhard Vohwinkel (initially as Allotria Stompers ) at the request of the host Hermann Kügler , appeared from the start as a house band in the Munich jazz restaurant Allotria in Munich's Maxvorstadt ; Until the mid-1980s, the Schwabinger Podium was the weekly venue. Already in the spring of 1970 the octet appeared in the main concert of the Burghausen Jazz Festival ; in the same year she received the first prize at the festival in Dinslaken. Soon after, the group received a record deal with Ariola , later Bellaphon ; since 1983 she has published her albums with Turicaphon on the Elite Special label .

In addition, the band gave an annual New Year's concert in the State Theater on Gärtnerplatz , later in the Künstlerhaus on Lenbachplatz . The musicians toured throughout Europe and, since 1981, through North America.

style

The frontline with 4 winds (including two trumpets) clearly stands out from most of today's traditional jazz bands. Initially committed to Dixieland Jazz , the band's repertoire has expanded since the 1990s; she also interprets ragtime , swing , boogie woogie or blues . The band, which grew from a student band to a formation of professional musicians, also gave concerts with star guests such as Trummy Young , Peanuts Hucko , Bud Freeman , Dick Cary , Billy Butterfield , Wild Bill Davison , Harold Ashby , Ralph Sutton , Warren Vaché and Scott Hamilton . With the quartet Swing Wing there is a band in the band.
