Mathias Götz (born December 6, 1972 in Waibstadt ) is a German jazz musician (trombone and composition) who has lived in Munich since 2004 .

Live and act

Götz comes from a musical family: his father led the local band in the second generation, his uncle played the trombone there, and his two brothers were also members. He started learning the trumpet when he was eight. In addition to folk and concert brass music, he soon became interested in jazz. He attended the Max Weber School (business high school) in Sinsheim and the Friedrich Hecker School (technical high school) from 1990 to 1993, now played in a school big band and attended Joe Viera's workshops . From 1994 to 1996 he completed his apprenticeship as a brass instrument maker in order to then work in this profession. He was also a member of the Baden-Württemberg State Youth Jazz Orchestra and then of theFederal Jazz Orchestra ( Focus on Vocals , 1997). He decided on a career as a musician and studied jazz trombone with Hermann Breuer , composition with Thomas Zoller and classical trombone with Thomas Horch (solo trombonist of the Munich Radio Orchestra ) at the Richard Strauss Conservatory in Munich until 2001 .

After a year-long stay in Vienna , Götz is active as a freelance musician in Munich. He played in numerous projects; including the Unterbiberger Hofmusik and the jazz formations Allotria Jazzband , Claus Raible Bop-Chestra , Earforce or Das Rote Gras . The wind force 4 septet with, as the name suggests, four wind instruments in the front line was initially the most important formation for which he composed. In 2007 he released an LP of the RoBErT GoEtZ project together with Robert Alonso , which was created solely from his voice. He is currently working on the solo project Le Millipede ; he also worked for the Tied and Tickled Trio and can be heard on the albums of Efterklang , Ballon Pilot, as well as Carl Oesterhelt / Johannes Enders ( The Anatomy of Melancholy ).
