Hermann Breuer

Hermann Breuer (born October 27, 1942 in Munich ) is a German jazz musician ( trombone , piano ).

Life and effect

Breuer had piano lessons from the age of four (his parents were piano teachers and pianists). At the age of 16 he discovered jazz. From 1962 he studied trombone (and piano as a minor) at the University of Music and Theater in Munich . He worked with Joe Haider and Gunter Hampel . With his own trio he accompanied soloists such as Chet Baker , Benny Bailey , Peanuts Holland and Pony Poindexter . He played temporarily with the jazz rock group Embryo . From 1973 Breuer worked with salsa groups such as Connexion Latina and the formations of Dusko Goykovich , Bobby Jones , Mal Waldron and Manfred Schoof . He also played in the big bands of Slide Hampton , Boško Petrović and Gil Evans . In 1982 he founded the group Brass Jazz , in 1984 a trio with Doug Hammond . He later worked with his own quintet, which also included his daughter, saxophonist Carolyn Breuer , and with their band. He also recorded with Joe Nay , Barbara Dennerlein , Wolfgang Haffner , Rachel Gould , the Berlin Contemporary Jazz Orchestra , the NDR-Bigband , Johannes Herrlich's Trombonefire and the conference .

Breuer taught at the Hamburg University of Music and Theater and the Munich Jazz School; He was also a lecturer for trombone at the Conservatory in Munich until 2008 . In 1984 he received the Munich Art Prize.
