Axel Schlosser (born September 18, 1976 in Aalen ) is a German trumpeter and composer of modern jazz .

Live and act

Schlosser, who grew up in Oberkochen , was brought to music at a very early age by his older cousin: he played the clarinet and saxophone in the local music club and in a Dixieland band. Therefore, Schlosser was already occupied with New Orleans jazz and brass music in childhood . Initially, at the age of six, he received recorder lessons ; later the clarinet was added. At the age of 12 he switched to the flugelhorn , which he then focused on. In 1994 he became a member of the Bujazzo under Peter Herbolzheimer , to which he belonged until 1998; At the same time he also played in the Baden-Württemberg Youth Jazz Orchestra directed by Bernd Konrad . After graduating from high school with a music prize at the Schiller Gymnasium in Heidenheim an der Brenz , he studied jazz from 1997 to 2001 at the Mannheim University of Music and Performing Arts . During his studies he was a lead trumpeter in the German-French jazz ensemble led by Albert Mangelsdorff .

After completing his studies, he was employed by the city of Munich for two years, where he taught in the project “Music as a major” at a secondary school. He was also a co-founder and member of the quintet L 14, 16 , which also included saxophonist Steffen Weber , pianist Rainer Böhm , bassist Arne Huber and drummer Lars Binder. The formation's first two albums were each awarded the German Record Critics' quarterly award. He has been a member of the hr big band since 2002 ; he also leads his own groups.

Schlosser continued to play with the Sunday Night Orchestra , the Al Porcino Big Band, the Bobby Burgess Big Band Explosion, the Summit Jazz Orchestra, the SWR Big Band , RIAS Big Band , Hugo Strasser Orchestra , Peter Herbolzheimer's Rhythm Combination & Brass, the Bremen Big Band, the Ed Partyka Bigband, the Mannheim Jazz Orchestra, the Glenn Miller Orchestra under Wil Salden and the Frankfurt Jazz Bigband. He was also one of the combos of Charly Antolini , Max Greger , Max Greger jr. Quintet, Mariette's Motion Club , the Louis Armstrong Revival Band , the European Swing Stars , wind force 4 or Band in the Box. In recent years he has concentrated more on composition. He also taught at the music academies in Frankfurt and Mainz.
