The Schiller-Gymnasium (short: SG ) is a gymnasium in Heidenheim an der Brenz in eastern Baden-Württemberg and was first mentioned in 1864 as a daughter's school.

history

The beginnings

In 1864 a girls' school in Heidenheim was mentioned for the first time, which was taken over by the city in 1866. At this daughter's school, history, geography, the German language, drawing and French were initially taught. In 1874 the daughter's school got a schoolhouse on Brenzstrasse, which was expanded by three classrooms in 1881 and 1895. Physical education was introduced in 1886 at the request of the parents. In 1908, by resolution of the municipal council, what was then a girls ' middle school was converted into a girls' higher school . In 1928 the newly built school building on Friedrich-Ebert-Straße was ready to move into. Two years later the girls' secondary school got a new gym next to the school building, the Bühl gym.

History in National Socialism

The girls' secondary school was named Schiller School in 1933 , as it is still called today by older people. In 1937 the Schiller School was converted into the Schiller High School of the domestic form. Just three years later, the first Abitur was taken. This was a big step forward. During the war, however, the school declined. In 1941 the school building was converted into a military hospital. Classes then took place in the Hellenstein Gymnasium and were completely discontinued at the beginning of 1945.

After the war there was again teaching at the Hellenstein Gymnasium. It was not until 1947 that teaching was started again at the Schiller Gymnasium, because the building had been confiscated by the Americans by then.

The more recent developments

The new building was inaugurated in 1961 and the pavilion in 1973. In 1960 the chamber choir was founded by the then young music teacher Werner Neuber, who is now retired and has achieved many successes for the Schiller-Gymnasium with the chamber choir. The assembly train was introduced in 1965. It was already co-educational and was intended to enable secondary school students in particular to get their Abitur. With the introduction of the upper school level in 1979, the end of the construction train came. The Schiller-Gymnasium received two new trains in addition to the mathematical and scientific train: 1968 the modern language train II and 1976 the music train . In 1974 the number of pupils briefly exceeded 1000 for the first time. On November 26, 1979, the Friends of the School were founded and have been actively supporting the school ever since. From 1977 to 1979 the natural science rooms were renewed and expanded. The old building was renovated from 1989 to 1990. In the same year the Schiller-Gymnasium celebrated 50 years of Abitur, 30 years of the chamber choir and 10 years of the Circle of Friends. In the summer and autumn of 1997 the new building was completely renovated. With the school year 2004/2005, the eight-year grammar school also began at the Schiller grammar school. In 2005 the New Chamber Choir Heidenheim was founded, which is made up of high school students.

In May 2008, construction began on a new building between the new building and the pavilion. It is to be used as a large event hall and can be divided into four classrooms for teaching with the help of partition walls. The other building also has a roof terrace.

Profiles

The following high school profiles are offered at the Schiller Gymnasium:

  • the scientific profile with the foreign language sequence English from grade 5 and French from grade 6 (G8) or from grade 7 (G9)
  • the linguistic profile with the foreign language sequence English from grade 5, Latin from grade 6 (G8) or grade 7 (G9), French from grade 8 (G8) or grade 9 (G9)
  • the music profile with the foreign language sequence English from grade 5 and French or Latin from grade 6 (G8) or from grade 7 (G9)
With the music profile, the Schiller-Gymnasium is the only school in the Heidenheim area to offer an additional educational program for all students interested in music. Music is taught for four hours in grades 5 and 6 and three hours in grade 7. From Grade 8, music becomes a profile subject and takes the place of the third foreign language. In the upper school, music can be chosen as a profile subject. Students in the music profile receive the same educational offer as all other students; they just have more music lessons.

In the 2006/2007 school year, the Festival of Lights did not take place for the first time in decades of tradition due to bad weather.
