Thomas Kammel is director and founder of the New Chamber Choir Heidenheim.

The New Chamber Choir Heidenheim was founded in 2005 by Thomas Kammel, music teacher at the Schiller-Gymnasium Heidenheim , under whose musical direction the choir performs. In the past six years the Neue Kammerchor has performed 180 times in Germany and abroad. The choir became the “flagship” of the school and at the same time represents the city of Heidenheim to the outside world.

The ensemble of around 70 young people is made up of students from grades 9 to 12, most of whom come from the other choirs at the grammar school.

Appearances

Important performances by the New Chamber Choir were in 2006 a. a. a radio production at SWR 4 at the State Garden Show in Heidenheim. As a representative of the state government of Baden-Württemberg, several appearances in Meißen / Saxony and in Heidenheim's twin town Döbeln . In November 2007 the choir sang for President Pöttering in the European Parliament in Brussels. In July 2009 the ensemble gave a concert in the Schauspielhaus Hamburg. The ensemble attracted attention with several performances (including in the Stuttgart Liederhalle ) of the operetta “ Die Fledermaus ” by Johann Strauss. In September 2011 the New Chamber Choir was the only German ensemble to take part in the anniversary gala concert of the Armenian Culture Days 2011 in the Mozart Hall of the Liederhalle in Stuttgart.

In 2007, at the invitation of the Second German Television , the Neue Kammerchor took part in several nationwide casting awards for the program “ Grand Prix of Choirs ” and made it to the semifinals with 600 participating choirs. In the summer of 2008, the New Chamber Choir was nominated to participate in the federal meeting “Schools Making Music” in Hamburg in June 2009. The New Chamber Choir Heidenheim with Morten Lauridsen's Dirait-on can be found on the anniversary edition CD 2012 of the “Musical Advent Calendar” from SWR .

In December 2012 the New Chamber Choir Heidenheim performed the Christmas oratorio “Oratorio de Navidad” by the Argentine composer Martín Palmeri together with the composer for the first time in Europe . On the recommendation of the SWR Vocal Ensemble, there was a cooperation with the Baden-Württemberg State Wind Orchestra in 2019, in which the 5th Lord of the Rings Symphony "Return to Middle Earth" by Johan de Meji as a German premiere a. a. was performed at the German Music Festival in Osnabrück.

Concert tours

Concert tours have taken the New Chamber Choir to Italy , Saxony , Belgium , Romania , Latvia , Armenia and in 2011 to Provence and again to Italy.

In April 2012 the New Chamber Choir undertook a three-week concert tour through Argentina and in December to Poland . In July 2013 a concert tour took the New Chamber Choir to Rome and Vicenza . In 2014 the choir toured South Africa and Namibia , in 2015 in Estonia and Finland and in 2016 in Brazil . In June 2017, the young people from Heidenheim will be giving concerts on their Balkans concert tour in Bulgaria , Macedonia and Albania . In May 2018, the young people from Heidenheim gave a total of 15 concerts in Mexico and Guatemala .
