The Werkgymnasium (short: WeG ) is one of four general high schools in the city of Heidenheim and the only all-day high school in the Heidenheim district ( Baden-Württemberg ). It is a mathematics and natural science grammar school in which the curriculum has been expanded to include four to five hours of practical courses per week.

history

The Werkgymnasium started teaching on September 9, 1971 in the mountain school (Bergstrasse 17). The inauguration of the grammar school in the mountain school took place on October 11, 1971 in the presence of the Minister of Education and Cultural Affairs Hahn. The laying of the foundation stone for the new high school at Römerstrasse 101 was on October 18, 1976, the topping-out ceremony was celebrated about a year later on October 12, 1977.

On August 1, 1978, Erich Ott became provisional director of the company high school. Classes in the new building started on January 22, 1979. On February 6 of the same year, the city library opened its branch “City Library East” in the company high school. The Werkgymnasium was inaugurated on October 8, 1979 by the Minister of Education, Herzog. The construction costs amounted to 23 million DM (≈11.8 million €). The first Abitur was taken on June 25, 1980. The support association Werkgymnasium e. V. was entered in the register of associations on May 14, 1981. Construction began on the sports hall of the works high school on June 11, 1981.

In December 1982, the model school at the works high school became a regular school. The sports hall of the Werkgymnasium was handed over to its intended use on October 12, 1983 by Mayor Martin Hornung. The costs amounted to 6.4 million DM (≈3.3 million €).

In August 2006, Werner Schölzel, the former deputy headmaster, took over the management of the company high school after Erich Ott had retired.

On August 1, 2018, Ralf Kiesel, previously deputy headmaster, took over the management of the company high school.
