Paradise is a city ( town ) in Butte County in the US state of California , United States , with about 26,700 inhabitants (2017). The urban area has a size of 47.3 km².

Paradise is located in the Sierra Nevada foothills . The next larger town is Chico, about 20 kilometers (12 miles) to the west . Sacramento is about 140 kilometers (90 miles) further south.

history

The area of ​​today's Paradise was inhabited by the Maidu people before the arrival of the whites. A major influx into the area occurred during the gold rush . A post office was set up in 1857 and a railway connection was established in 1904. However, Paradise was not raised to the rank of town until 1979 after a referendum.
