Bobby Burgess

Bobby Burgess (born October 4, 1929 in Centralia (Illinois) as Robert Dean Burgess , † June 9, 1997 in Denton (Texas) ) was an American jazz musician ( trombone , arrangements ) and big band leader.

Live and act

As a child, Burgess took trombone lessons from well-known teachers; he won many competitions before he began playing professionally at age 13, before graduating from college. He worked for Sam Donahue in 1947 before graduating from North Texas State University with a bachelor's degree. In 1949 he went on tour with Louis Jordan and worked for Stan Kenton , Maynard Ferguson , Charlie Barnet , Woody Herman and Shorty Rogers for the next few years . There were also recordings with Chet Baker , Herbie Fields , Frank Sinatra and Mel Tormé .

Burgess continued to play with Sarah Vaughan , Billy Eckstine , Ella Fitzgerald , Terry Gibbs , but also in television and Broadway shows before moving to Germany in 1972. There he worked with Erwin Lehn (until 1978, from 1981) and Paul Kuhn / SFB Big Band (1978 to 1981), but also recorded with Keith Jarrett , Joe Haider , Francy Boland , Peter Herbolzheimer and Dusko Goykovich . In 1987 he played with Freddie Hubbard's "Satchmo Legacy" . In 1985 he founded his "Big Band Explosion" with South German musicians, which also performed with Don Menza and Claudio Roditi . Klaus Graf and Steffen Schorn continued to lead the orchestra after Burgess accepted a position as a professor at the University of North Texas .
