Claus Raible
Claus Raible (born May 3, 1967 in Karlsruhe ) is a German jazz pianist , orchestra conductor, composer and arranger .
Live and act
Raible came into contact with jazz music through radio while he was still in elementary school . At the age of eleven he started playing the trumpet ; three years later the piano was added, which became his main instrument. As a high school student he performed with jazz bands in the Munich area. Between 1986 and 1992 he studied at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz with Harald Neuwirth ; he passed his diploma with distinction. During this time he accompanied Art Farmer , Andy Bey and Mark Murphy ; In 1989 he performed at the Montreux Jazz Festival .
Raible then lived in Vienna for a year, where he also performed his first solo concert under the title "Claus Raible Plays the Music of Bud Powell " for ORF . He spent the next three years in New York City , where he formed his sextet and took lessons from Barry Harris , who influenced him both as a composer and as an arranger.
In 1998 he returned to Munich. There he not only performed his own projects, which the music of great stylists such as B. Elmo Hope , Thelonious Monk , Bud Powell or Tadd Dameron present, but also played with their own trio and Al Porcino. In 2009 Raible founded his BOP-chestra with seven wind instruments; In 2012 he released his album A Dedication to the Ladies ( TCB ), for which he wrote all the arrangements himself. He can be heard on albums with Claus Koch , Al Porcino, Anna Lauvergnac , Dusko Goykovich , Charles Davis and Roman Schwaller . “His piano playing is characterized by very colorful harmony, clear melody lines and a powerful rhythm. He is going his own way beyond the fashionable trends of today's jazz piano, which has already earned him a lot of recognition internationally. "
Raible currently teaches at the University of Music and Theater in Munich .
Prizes and awards
In 1989 Raible was awarded the soloist prize at the international jazz competition in Mauterndorf. In 1992 he was awarded the prize of the Austrian Minister for Culture and Science. In 2006 he received the Bavarian Art Prize .
