NGC 6984 is a bar-spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBc in the constellation Indians in the southern sky . It is estimated to be 207 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of around 110,000 ly.
In the same area of the sky is the galaxy NGC 6982 .
The object was discovered on July 8, 1834 by the astronomer John Herschel with a 48 cm telescope.
