NGC 6987 is an elliptical galaxy from the Hubble type E1 in the constellation Indians on the southern sky . It is an estimated 233 million light years from the Milky Way and about 95,000 light years in diameter. With a further twelve galaxies, it is considered a member of the NGC 7038 group ( LGG 441 ).
The object was discovered by John Herschel on September 30, 1834 .
